About This Place

Nestled in the heart of San Jose, Falafel's Drive In is a beloved Middle Eastern fast food gem that has been delighting locals and visitors alike for over half a century. This family-owned restaurant at 2301 Stevens Creek Blvd effortlessly captures the vibrant flavors and rich traditions of Middle Eastern cuisine, making it a must-visit destination for anyone craving authentic, satisfying fare in a welcoming, nostalgic setting.

Falafel’s Drive In is renowned primarily for its crispy, golden falafel sandwiches—each bite a perfect balance of crunch and tender, herb-infused chickpea goodness. Among the standout offerings, the Large Falafel Sandwich paired with a creamy, luscious banana shake has achieved almost cult-like status, with first-timers like Daisy discovering the magic of falafel here and instantly falling in love. The banana shake’s sweet, velvety smoothness provides an ideal complement to the savory, crunchy sandwich, creating a flavor pairing that’s both comforting and exciting.

Beyond falafel, the menu is a treasure trove of Middle Eastern delights that keep customers coming back for more. The Kifta Kabab in a Pita features a juicy grilled ground beef patty expertly seasoned with fresh parsley, onions, and spices, wrapped with crisp lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and drizzled tahini sauce—a harmonious medley of textures and flavors that transport you straight to the streets of the Mediterranean. For those seeking satisfying sides, the homestyle Onion Rings remain fresh, crispy, and addictive, while the French Fries have earned a reputation as some of the best in the Bay Area.

The restaurant also delights with authentic appetizers like the tangy Baba Ghannouj, rich and smoky, and the delicate Dolmas—grape leaves stuffed with lemon-infused rice—that add a genuine taste of Middle Eastern culinary heritage to the table. And don’t miss the sweet finish with Baklava, a crisp, honey-soaked pastry that perfectly rounds out the meal.

Dining at Falafel’s Drive In evokes a charming, nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the 1960s, creating a warm and inviting experience that longtime regular Jake Byman described as feeling like being "transported back in time.” The efficient ordering system and reasonable prices make it easy to grab a quick, flavorful meal without compromising quality or authenticity.

Customers have attested to the consistent excellence of Falafel's Drive In through the decades. Gurgle Gaggle’s 55-year loyalty echoes a profound trust in the restaurant’s commitment to quality, enjoying favorites like the gyro salad paired with falafel balls and perfectly balancing sauces. While some recent visitors have noted subtle variations—such as S D’s observation of a smaller sandwich portion on one visit—the overwhelming consensus remains positive, underscoring the welcoming family vibe behind the counter and the enduring passion for great food.

Whether you're a Middle Eastern cuisine enthusiast, a fast food lover seeking a flavorful alternative, or simply on the hunt for an iconic San Jose eatery with a story to tell, Falafel's Drive In delivers with heart, tradition, and unforgettable taste. Treat yourself to a falafel special with a banana shake, savor the crispy onion rings and fries, and let the genuine hospitality and vibrant flavors leave you planning your next visit before you even finish your meal.

I've been coming here for over 20 years and hands down the best falafel restaurant in the bay area. I cannot even find a similar place up in the Sacramento area. I usually spend $30-50 each visit. My recent visit they must've had a new guy making falafels because my small was considerably smaller than usual with part of the bread missing. Other than that. They're great and the family is very welcoming. William retired but he was my goto and high energy.

I have been going to Falafel's Drive In since 1970 when I was a student at Santa Clara University. For 55 years Falafel's Drive In has consistently made the same great tasting food. My favorite is a gyro salad with a half-dozen flafel balls and a jumbo diet coke. I put a little "red" sauce on the salad and dip the flafel balls in "white" sauce., This is a family owned business. I am remembered whenever I go there. A people oriented business is a rarity in today's environment. I am very greatful that Falafel's Drive In is still operating and I highly recommend it.

It was a first time for us. We got the famous Banana shake with Falafel sandwich. It came with very little lettuce and tomatoes was hoping for some cucumbers and more of the good sauces, but sadly no. We all got shakes and the banana and chocolate shakes were on hit. We all said we would go back just for the shakes! French fries and onion rings were yum. Iced tea was awesome too. Loved the flavor. Soda was on point too.

Everything was really good! The service was quick, the staff were friendly, and the food came out fresh and flavorful. The falafel was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, exactly how it should be. Portion sizes were great for the price, and the sauces were delicious. Overall, a smooth, convenient experience and definitely a place I’d return to!
